The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) on September 16, 2026, issued the Guidelines for Certification of Films for Public Exhibition, 2026.
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued guidelines under Section 5B(2) of the Cinematograph Act for certification of films for public exhibition.
•The guidelines require the Film Certification Board to safeguard social values while allowing artistic expression and creative freedom.
•They prescribe restrictions on glorification of violence, crime, substance abuse, smoking, obscenity, sexual violence, discrimination, and content affecting public order, national security, or sovereignty.
•Films may be classified as U/A 7+, U/A 13+ and U/A 16+, or restricted to specified audiences, based on their content.
•The Board must also assess films as a whole, consider contemporary standards, and ensure that film titles are not provocative, obscene, or objectionable.
